Update by Jerry Lawlis - December 2002

Kent Marcum continues to work diligently to build a good school in Ecuador. We have 33 full time students this semester. We have struggled (as with all such works) for finances. Since August we have operated with a $2000 per month deficit. GOD is good. He is always good.

Beginning in January the South Gate church in San Angelo will begin supporting the school at $2500 per month, the University church where we worship in Canyon will begin supporting at $500 per month, the Twickenham church in Huntsville, AL will begin supporting at $200 per month, the Faith Village church in Wichita Falls, TX will increase $185, the Bella Vista, AR church plans to double their $500 per month, and the Western Hills church in Lawton, OK is waiting to commit a monthly amount. If we can just find 2 or 3 more churches which will fully support a student, Kent will finally be out of the “woods” and can concentrate on administration and edification.

I will take 48 to Ecuador in January. Kent believes doing the campaign before classes begin in January will be a better use of time and resources for the school. Sixteen of the group will extend over and see Machu Picchu in Peru before returning. I want very much to see Lima since we were involved with that work during the ‘70’s when I was a Campus Minister for the Travis Street church in Sherman, TX.
