3rd Ethiopian National Preachers Seminar Nov. 3-7, 2004 |

The 3rd Ethiopian National Preachers Seminar was held in the Church of Christ Mission compound in Mazoria, Southern Region, Ethiopia. The Ethiopian Church Leaders who organized the seminar had a stunning camp fire and devotion on the eve of the seminar. Lots of prayers and songs of praises were given to our almighty God. We had 740 registered preachers who came from all over Ethiopia to attend the Seminar. Some of the preachers had to travel 3 to 4 days on buses to get there. Some had to walk on foot from four to five hours. |
There were many dusty tired beautiful feet seen at the seminar. ("...how beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news." Romans 10:15b) There were representative of 8 ethnic groups and four distinct nationalities. (Americans, Sudanese, Ugandan and Ethiopians). Ninety-five percent of the participants stayed in the deaf school class rooms and tents and the rest in near by Christian homes. Bro. Molla, the organizer of the seminar and committee members, have done an excellent job in preparing all accommodations and feeding all these people three times a day. The daily official schedule started at 6:00 a.m. and it ended at 10:30 p.m. Every morning, songs and praises of prayers were made to God in different languages from their dormitories. Singing started at 4:30 a.m. What a memory, what a way to wake up each morning! The attendance record was evidence that all participants were present at all times studying and meditating on the word until the end of the seminar. On Saturday, Nov. 7, the turnout were 1082 people without counting boys and girls. Every speaker did an exceptionally good job in carrying out their assignment. The classes taught by our women for children were magnificent. Special classes were conducted for the young kids who came from the area to see what was going on at the church of Christ compound. The closing of the seminar was wonderful and exceptional. The 740 preachers lined up and made the map of Ethiopia while each one held a burning candle to imply that they will take Ethiopia with the Gospel of Christ. Every group sang and praised God in their own language. The people of Mazoria town were out there watching while God's people were singing and praying to God to take Ethiopia for Christ. It was an awesome sight and God was praised for His wonderful grace and providential care of the Ethiopian church over the past 45 years. On Sunday morning we had worship service with those who stayed behind and at the end of our worship every one went to their individual homes. We are grateful to our American brothers and sisters (12) who came to be with us in this great occasion. Their presence and teachings were very encouraging and uplifting. The next National Preachers Seminar is to be held in the capital city of Addis Ababa in the year 2006. We thank God for helping us to accomplish our mission. For His Glory Behailu Abebe |
