History of the Atlantic International Bible Institute

/ Rex Morgan, Director of the Abierto Biblia in Hialeah, urged Sunset to start a Spanish speaking preacher training school in the Miami area. He convinced us that the multi-national, Spanish speaking population offered an ample pool of students who could return to their nations with the Gospel.

/ Rudy Wray of Portland, OR was recruited to serve as the first dean based on his long standing commitment and involvement in the Latin American work.

/ On a fact finding survey trip Truman Scott and Rudy W ray visited with the Elders of the Hialeah church and reached an agreement to start a school in the Hialeah building. The facility had served as a former Christian school but the upper floor offered to Sunset had been abandoned for almost a decade and was in a sad state of repair.

/ Rudy W ray led the way in a complete renovation of the facility and prepared it for opening as an evening school. The cost of living in Miami made fulltime study beyond the resources of the school.

/ After two years, Armando Alaniz, former Director of the Sunset Spanish School of Preaching, joined the faculty as the Academic Dean.

/ An opening into Cuba became possible with trips to hold seminars for a group of preachers, attend national lectureships and train a select number of preachers in preparation to start a Branch school in Cuba. An annual appeal provided the funds to underwrite the Cuban effort.

/ An invitation to become affiliated with La Hispaniola in Santo Domingo, D.R. resulted in a visit by Truman Scott and Rudy Wray in which an agreement was reached to work together in building a training school.

/ Kirk McAfee, missionary in Santo Domingo, agreed to move to Miami in 2002 and replace Rudy Wray as Dean of AIBI. Joining the faculty the same year was Jorge Pineda, former Branch teacher in Quito, Ecuador.

/ An invitation by the Haiti Christian Foundation to become affiliated in ministry training resulted in visits to Haiti by Rudy Wray, Kirk McAfee and Doug Reeves. An agreement was signed in February 2003.

/ Other developments include extension programs in Naples, FI and Miami, FI., obtaining annual funding for the school and placing the courses on the International Website.
