Sunset International Studies Division

A vision is like a baby. You are so proud when it is born and you see it growing everyday. You have to feed it. But mainly, you have to love it and then it will become a part of you. That is our vision for this area of South Florida. Thousands and thousands of Hispanics are living and moving here. Jesus is the answer for them, but we don’t have enough workers to spread that good news. We pray to God for more workers and we reconsider our strategies and tools to confront that obstacle. Let me share with you what we have been praying for and some results are coming up:

A New place to teach Classes for AIBI:

As you may know The Atlantic international Bible Institute is serving the community of South Florida by offering a 3 year Bible program. Because of the fact that our students are church leaders and have full time secular jobs, we offer our classes during night time. Two courses are taught every week. Right now, I rejoice in the Lord by telling you that we are opening the first class in Broward County, in the same place where I planted a congregation last December. How can this work for our vision? Well, as soon as I announced this, 12 people from this new congregation signed up for the course. If we train our people they will be able to teach others and more congregations will be established in the future as a result of that. It is exciting to see how the Atlantic International Bible Institute has a meaningful role in training leaders and members of congregations in the area of South Florida. Glory to God!

A Cuban Seminar in October:

On the second week of October I have to fly to Cuba in order to teach a seminar to the Cuban leaders and members of the different congregations in Cuba, who are coming for a week of teaching. This time we will be fulfilling two objectives:

Begin a new group of students (of about 25 people) for our regular Cuba Bible seminar program
Meet with our full time distance students to agree in news ways of presenting, discussing and correcting assignments effectively. Remember that the Cuban government only approves to receive and send e-mails and access to Internet is prohibited.

Our Congregation Planted in Broward:

We are still growing in knowledge and commitment to God. Right now, we have 5 men that are meeting with me in other to develop leadership skills by learning how to take decisions and so forth. Three of them are already participating in our worship: Wilfredo is serving the Lord’s supper and prayers, Roberto is teaching our Sunday morning class and serving the Lord’s supper, prayers and once in a while a sermon; Atenogenes is leading songs, serving the Lord’s supper (when I lead singing) and prayers. As you see we are fulfilling God’s will training this congregation as a body.

My wife and two of my daughters in Venezuela:

Maritza had to make a trip to Venezuela for one month. She just returned and we are together again. I wanted to go, but I had to take Lesley to Searcy, Arkansas. She would like to study in Harding University. Her major is Interior or Fashion design or Criminal Investigation. In Harding, they gave us a tour and invited us for lunch. My daughter and I were so pleased by the way Harding personnel and students were treating us. We also were so blessed by being with Jim and Lisa Rawlings (Our contact family from our sponsoring congregation Pleasant Valley in Little Rock, AR.) Their children Christopher and Katherine were so sweet to us. Also, I had the opportunity to see some of my elders who prayed for me and my family. Maritza is asking for your prayers as she will continue her treatment here. The thing is that she will be going to Venezuela when it is needed. Please, continue to pray for her health, she has been a great partner for my ministry everywhere we go.

A Personal Need:

We all know that when we increase our activities we also increase our expenses. Our ministry here has taken a necessary increment in activities to accomplish the objectives already planned, but with the same budget. The new activities are:

Planning and conducting activities for the new and growing congregation located in West Broward (teaching and training in this location, more evangelism in this area, etc.)
A possible once a week radio program
A more involvement in the Cuba training program (Seminars twice a year, distance teaching, etc.)
