FOCUS ON ASIA

Singapore As many of you already know, Tamara and I have agreed to return to Asia one more time. I will be serving as Administrative Dean for Sunset's newest branch school, Singapore International Bible Institute, Singapore, Southeast Asia. On the map above you will find Singapore at the tip of the Malaysian peninsula. I want to use this first edition of our Focus On Asia newsletter to explain why we have made this decision.
WHAT ABOUT THE FOCUS NORTHEAST/NORTHWEST WORK? The work in the NE/NW USA remains a very important concern to us and before we agreed to return to the Asia work we requested assurance that this domestic mission work would be continued by someone who would keep it moving forward. We have received Sunset’s assurance regarding this. Several qualified men are being considered. Please pray that the right missionary couple for the NE/NW work will be found. WHY SINGAPORE? Singapore is the most strategically located place for reaching out to China, India, all of Southeast Asia, and eventually all of the Asian Continent. The greatest need in Asia at this time is for us to train national evangelists who are grounded in the Word. I do believe that the doors to China are opening and, with our 20 years of experience, Asia is the best place for us to be doing mission work. Again, there are many workers with experience in missions in America but there are few like Tamara and myself with 20 years experience in Asia. We felt that we needed to accept this opportunity and view it as an open door in the way Paul viewed the providential workings of the Lord long ago (see 2Cor 2:12). We have long said that if God opens the doors to China, we want to be there. ARE THERE OTHER FACTORS INVOLVED IN OUR DECISION? Yes, of course there are. I especially invite you to review our web site at www.focusonasia.net. I have posted all of the vital information about why we need to give concerted attention to Asia at this particular time. In short, Asia is undergoing dynamic social and economic changes and where such changes are taking place is where we need to be preaching the gospel and planting new churches. Please check out my web site and view the video at the start up page. WHAT IS NEEDED? It would be a blessing if those of you who help our mission efforts could continue with your prayers and funding as we venture into this new work. Most of our supporters have been with us for years and we are most grateful for your partnership in missions. Some of you came onboard to help only with the work in the Northeast and Northwest, USA and, understandably, want your resources to stay with that work. We can only appreciate your commitment. Those of you who have supported us in whatever area of missions we were involved in, whether in Hawaii or India, the Northeast/Northwest USA, Bible instructor at SIBI ... We pray our partnership can continue...to His glory.
