Tom Goracke and his family are preparing to go to Singapore where Tom will serve as the Dean of Students for the new Sunset International ministry training school. See
Tom's video presentation UNIQUE OPPORTUNITIES: The opportunity to train spokesmen for the Lord from the Pasir Panjang congregation in Singapore is truly unique. There are many reasons, but among them are; 1. The centralized location of Singapore. Situated in the center of the Asian world, Singapore stands as a natural gateway to Malaysia, Indonesia, China, India, The Philippines and even Australia. 2. The economic condition of Singapore. Singapore is possibly one of the most modern, financially secure cities in the world. Most members of the church enjoy well-paying jobs and a fairly secure, probably early retirement. 3. The economic condition of the Pasir Panjang congregation. Many of the members of the Pasir Panjang congregation are professionals: accountants, doctors, business men, etc. This has produced a congregation with the financial resources to assume a great deal and eventually all of the financial responsibility of a school. 4. The healthy spiritual condition of the Pasir Panjang congregation. This is truly a unique congregation. It is biblically organized with well-qualified elders and deacons. There seems to be a very healthy and positive spirit of cooperation among the members to allow the will of God to be done in every aspect of the work. Fellowship among members is a high priority. Its importance can be seen before and after each appointed time of meeting and in the involvement in each other’s lives during the week. 5. The healthy spirit of evangelism of the Pasir Panjang congregation. There is a healthy spirit of evangelism among the membership. They are already involved in mission work in several foreign countries and they recognize the advantage of training missionaries from Singapore. They have a program called “Tentmakers” in which many members volunteer time and money to go on mission projects in different countries including China and The Philippines. 6. The English language. English is the official language of Singapore. Instructors from Sunset can teach without using an interpreter. Students can be trained and sent to other English speaking countries. But, perhaps more importantly, most of the Singaporeans are multi-lingual. Students can be trained in English who are preparing to take the gospel to China, Indonesia, Malay, and other Asian countries where missionaries from the United States cannot go. 7. The Evangelistic leadership. The ministers, the elders and the deacons, are all involved in some sort of mission and recognize the need for in-depth ministry training. 8. Respect for the global
influence of Sunset International Bible Institute. There exists
a healthy respect for the work that Sunset has done and is doing around
the world. They have seen the results and successes of the school in Batam,
and the successes of missionaries from Sunset in the Asian world. |
