HELP US PREPARE TO SHARE THE GOSPEL IN IRAQ!

Dear Friends,

The door is opening for the churches of Christ to take the message of Jesus Christ to the people of Iraq, We have seen a nation freed from oppression, but freedom in Christ is our ultimate goal.

In the meantime, what do we do to prepare for this momentous opportunity? First, we need to pray. May we, His people, get down on our knees and pray for peace to reign in that region which was once God's Garden. Let us pray that the people who are now free from the grip of a brutal dictatorship also have freedom to seek truth and experience true freedom. . . freedom in Christ. Let's pray that we will be wise and culturally sensitive to expedite a plan for evangelizing that Muslim nation and the whole Middle Eastern region currently under the grip of Islam.

Discussions are underway, involving Sunset; sister congregations with missions experience to Arabic nations, key individuals in the region (who for security reasons must remain anonymous), brotherhood missions ministries, and humanitarian aid ministries of the churches of Christ. I am convinced that prayer and collaborative planning will bring about the most effective long-term results for reaching the Iraqi people for Jesus Christ.

In 1997, we graduated an Iraqi man from our preacher training program at Sunset. During the first Gulf War, he narrowly escaped the torture chambers of Baghdad and fled to Athens, Greece, where he was converted to Christ. He and his family are now prepared to help take the gospel to their people in Iraq. As we meet the immediate physical needs of this nation, we also need to provide the qualified people equipped with the tools (Bibles, curriculum and other materials in their language) to adequately meet their spiritual needs.

We are in the early stages of planning, but the doors are opening quickly and we must be prepared. In order to seize this historic opportunity, we need your financial partnership to accomplish the following:

  • Complete the Arabic translation and printing of Biblical literature.
  • Shore up our International Branch schools, especially in Athens, Greece, and Batam, Indonesia, in which we are training former Muslims to effectively carry Christ into Iraq, as well as other nations where Islam is the predominant religion.

  • Add qualified faculty to reach and prepare men and women for ministry to Muslim people. Immediate support is needed for our Iraqi brother who will playa significant role in this effort.

·   Provide additional scholarships for ministry students desiring to be trained for both short term and long-term missions to the Muslim world.

Will you please join me in generously contributing your financial resources so that we can send our best spiritual resources to share Jesus Christ in Iraq and other Arabic speaking nations? If we fail to act wisely and quickly this historic opportunity could be lost.

Please give generously. The need is great. The opportunity is now. The time is right for us to invest in the souls of people in the Arabic speaking world.

On behalf of those yet untold,
